Would anyone be interested in joining me for the Streamside Stomp? I think it would be fun and exciting to hang out outside of work (in nature!). Also this promises to be an educational experience. If the price ($9) is too steep, I'd be willing to subsidize the cost of your ticket. Or if nature isn't your thing, maybe we could all go to a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees game or check Asia's free concert across from the Steamtown Mall. There are so many exciting options! I know we can find something that everyone will enjoy. And by the way, no hard feelings about everyone passing on the Fine Art Fiesta. I had so much fun listening to the Acoustic Stew by myself. I have lots of pictures if people are interested.

If Toby and I are discussing a book and you've seen the movie, it does NOT entitle you to act like you've read the book. Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy is a wonderfully dark narrative that poses as children's literature, but manages to explore issues of philosophy, theology, and spirituality. So when we discuss the similarities between the Vatican (in real life) and the Magisterium (in the reality of the book), it's best for you to stay out of our conversation if your knowledge on the matter comes from having seen "part of the movie on HBO," you think. And don't lie to my face and say you did read the book, i.e. "Nicole Kidman's character was great." I didn't read George Will's most recent column about baseball's metaphor for geopolitics and try to talk to you about the Phillies' game last night. Sorry if this sounds condescending, but really I'm just trying to protect you from coming across as ignorant.

Here's my call to all the frolfers in the office about getting our frolf on. I've got a 10 AM tee time at the Scranton Nature Center this Saturday and I'm looking to complete my foursome with three other radical dudes. If no radical dudes are available, I will take not-too-lame guys or mildly bodacious babes.

American Idol shocker! It's been a week and I think nearly everyone here is still rocked to the core. When they announced that Kris Allen was the American Idol, I kept expecting them to follow it up by saying that Adam Lambert was the "World Idol." But they didn't. And I don't understand why or how. Nothing makes sense anymore. Nothing! And I know most of you feel the same way I do: you alternate between tears and anger, you spend a lot of time blaming AT&T for rigging the competition, you wonder if this is just some massive conspiracy and maybe the decision will get reversed. But as the week has progressed, I'm sensing that some people in this office are starting to move on and that sickens me. Plato said, "Justice will only exist where those not affected by injustice are filled with the same amount of indignation as those offended." I don't totally know what that means, but I read it on someone's Twitter after Adam was robbed, and I'm pretty sure that unless we all continue to express the outrage I know we're feeling deep down inside, then we're all allowing this crime against humanity to occur. So I'm begging all of you, don't lose hope, no matter what. We'll fight this, for as long as it takes. This I believe, yes we can!
